12 Species near Extinction

We don’t pay enough attention to the inhabitants of our planet, some of them are in imminent danger of disappearing completely in our lifetime. I’m using information I found in a Time photo essay with added information.

This is a brief list:

Javan Rhinoceros – less than 60 remaining

Vaquita – between 200-300

Cross River Gorilla – less than 300

Sumatran Tiger – less than 600

Golden-Headed Langur – less than 70

Black-Footed Ferret – approximately 1000

Borneo Pygmy Elephant – approximately 1500

Giant Panda – less than 2000

Polar Bear – fewer than 25,000

Mekong Giant Catfish – hundreds

Florida Panther – under 200 in the wild

Honest Authors – numbers unknown but their numbers decrease daily. With the destruction of their natural habitat because of the population explosion of the nuisance subspecies, authoris contamino aemulatio indignitas , this species is being driven to extinction as the reader/reviewer has little to distinguish between the two except by up close contact and this is no longer recommended. Consequently the Honest Author is treated as the ACAI and is losing reviews, income, and hope.

The few in captivity are respected for their talent and endurance but in the wild it is best, unfortunately, to treat authors with caution and keep far away from their “babies”.
